Do you ever feel like you could use more tools to support patients having unmedicated births? Are you curious to learn new ways to encourage posterior babies to rotate, whether or not your patients have an epidural? Would you like to rediscover and reinvigorate your passion for hands-on labor support?

AWHONN Michigan is sponsoring this special opportunity for nurses to expand their toolbox of hands-on labor support skills as part of the 2018 fall AWHONN Michigan Conference at the Mission Pointe Resort on Mackinaw Island.

You'll be learning from Michigan's own Jessica English, owner of Heart Soul Birth Pros and one of the nation's most respected doula trainers.

Jessica runs a fun, interactive training. She's offered her skills sessions for nurses at conferences, individual hospitals and regional trainings, always to rave reviews. You can read her full bio here, but the essence is that she's a birth doula trainer with DONA International, an advanced certified birth doula, and a Lamaze program director and trainer (which means she trains nurses and others to become childbirth educators).

Goals for our time together in this training:
• learn new hands-on skills to help your patients
• deepen your understanding of how to use the peanut ball
• identify strategies to reduce cesarean rates
• learn how to shake the apple tree (intriguing, yes?)
• connect, laugh and renew your passion for supporting birth.

This training is sponsored by AWHONN Michigan. We've applied for four nursing contact hours, which will meet your pain requirement for licensing.

Space is limited to just 40 people — don't wait to register below.

AWHONN says nurses need labor support skills.

In 2018, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) put out a position statement that said nurses should help women cope with labor, and they should also role model support to encourage the participation of family and other supporters.

Physiologic birth matters. Are you feeling solid in your hands-on support skills? Nurses often tell us that their training didn't include much in the way of labor support.

This half-day workshop will help fill the gap, so you can feel confident and excited to get hands-on with your very next patient.

(Interested in even more in-depth training? Check out our two-day doula training or become a childbirth educator.)
